Officials in St. Catharines will meet tomorrow to discuss the condition of the Burgoyne Bridge.

It had to be closed yesterday over safety concerns because of soil settlement around the base of 100-year old bridge.

While the closure is precautionary, a more detailed inspection of the bridge may result in an extended closure.

In the meantime, drivers and pedestrians will have to find another way to get into downtown St. Catharines. Preliminary work has already begun on the bridge’s replacement.

The almost $100 million project is expected to be finished in the fall of 2016.
