Hamilton Tiger-Cats fans look forward to opening day every year but for the second year in a row, the home opener is being played at a much smaller University stadium.

Construction of their new home Tim Hortons Field is behind schedule, so Saturday’s match against the Ottawa Red Blacks is at McMaster’s Ron Joyce Stadium.

It holds 6500 fans, but there are approximately 15,000 season ticket holders.

Fans that purchased tickets to the first two games at Tim Hortons Field will get a credit or refund that can be used towards future games.

The University’s Associate Director of Athletics and Recreation Mark Alfano says there’s not much difference between hosting a CFL game or a Marauder game except adding extra lighting for the television cameras. He says the field is ready to host tomorrow’s CFL contest, and that fans will enjoy the experience and the players will be comfortable too.

“For the Ticats it’s really no different. Most of them practiced here last year all season and this year through training camp. And this month they’ve been practicing every day so from the Ticats perspective it’s really no different”

As for parking arrangements, McMaster says the main campus will be able to accommodate everyone at the sold out game.

There is even discount parking for three dollars.

Game time tomorrow is at 7 p.m. The Tabbies will look for their first win of the season after starting 0-3 on the road.

The University says if Ron Joyce Stadium is needed past these two games it is more than willing to have that discussion.

Thousands of Hamilton fans however hope the new Tim Hortons Field will soon finally welcome the team.
