Long weekend closures

First Published:

Another holiday weekend is upon us.

Most commonly known as the Civic Holiday, this Monday is also known as George Hamilton Day in Hamilton, Simcoe Day in Toronto, Joseph Brant Day in Burlington, Colonel by Day in Ottawa and other names elsewhere.

But whatever you call it, government offices, libraries, banks, and many child care centres will be closed on Monday.

There will be no mail delivery, and in most areas, garbage and recycling collection will be delayed by a day all week. Electricity will be at the off-peak rate all day.

The HSR, TTC and GO Transit will be running on holiday schedules, which includes train service to Niagara Falls.

But the Civic Holiday is a little different when it comes to shopping. Malls, grocery stores, and most liquor and beer stores will be open, but many with reduced hours.
