A teenager from London, Ontario has been charged in connection with the Heartbleed data breach at the Canada Revenue Agency. The CRA shut down its website last Friday as world leaders learned about the Heartbleed computer bug.
The RCMP seized computer equipment and arrested 19-year-old Stephen Arthuro Solis-Reyes at his home yesterday. He’s been charged with unauthorized use of a computer and mischief.
On Monday, the CRA announced 900 social insurance numbers had been compromised. The loss was detected Friday, but the agency says it delayed telling Canadians at the request of the Mounties. That delay allowed police to pursue their investigation through the weekend, and helped track down a suspect.
