Liquid fentanyl

Hamilton police are asking for the public’s help and even asking for assistance from local drug dealers after liquid fentanyl was found in Hamilton. Detectives told us that they don’t know where the liquid fentanyl came from, they don’t know what was planned for it and they don’t know how it was going to be consumed or distributed to the public and that’s why they need any information possible.

The liquid fentanyl was found in a raid on Hamilton mountain in May, it was initially thought to be GHB or liquid ecstacy. The Health Canada lab in Toronto told Hamilton police that the substance was actually liquid fentanyl. In late October, Detective Constable Adam Brown learned that this was the first time liquid fentanyl was found in Canada and because of how dangerous even touching drug is, police are currently looking at ways to protect front line officers who may come in contact with it.

“When I was a patrol officer, I made numerous arrests and didn’t know what the drugs were at the time and now knowing that this out there and that it’s so toxic, protecting yourself and your body it needs to be at the forefront when we’re dealing with unknown substances.”

Brown says when he handled the drug, he wore a chemical suit to protect from splashes and put on two sets of special gloves, a respirator and seams of the suit were sealed up with chemical resistant tape.

If you have any information about the sale of liquid fentanyl you’re asked to call police or crime stoppers right away.
