Life of Crime is a crime comedy based on the Elmore Leonard book The Switch, and is directed by Daniel Schechter (Supporting Characters). The film is about two ex-cons who kidnap a wealthy socialite and demand a ransom from her husband. But what they didn’t know was that her husband was having an affair with a young mistress and, in order to move his life along with her, had filed for divorce. He sees no reason to pay the demanded ransom for a wife he doesn’t love anymore, leaving the two criminals searching for a way out of their new predicament. Life of Crime stars Jennifer Aniston, Yasiin Bey, Isla Fisher, Will Forte, and Tim Robbins.

The Film was the closing film at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and received mixed reviews. Life of Crime is a spiritual prequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown, which was based on Leonard’s novel Rum Punch. The role of Frank Dawson, the philandering husband played by Tim Robbins, was originally going to be played by Dennis Quaid. There was also a plan to adapt the novel in 1986 with Diane Keaton starring but that idea was shelved. Many of Elmore Leonard’s works have been adapted for the screen including Get Shorty, 3:10 to Yuma, and Out of Sight.

Life of Crime is rated 14A.
