Last day of the federal election campaign

The politicians have had their say and tomorrow it’s your chance to tell them what you think.

It may seem that Canada’s been in campaign mode almost forever, but the end, is quickly drawing near.

It started in a dead heat. One of the longest election campaigns, in Canadian history.
And with 79 days to fill, you can expect just about anything. Starting with some jabs and moving to Niqabs.

And after that there was none of this.

The opposition said Stephen Harper’s attack on the niqab tore a hole in the fabric of Canada. Others said, he tore a hole in his own campaign. One big enough to drive a Ford through. Several of them, in fact.

Of course there were gimmicks, but was anyone paying attention?

Well, perhaps the biggest indicator of voter interest, came from the advance polls, in which there was a 71% jump in voter turn out. Which is usually a sign that people want change.

And yet, despite everything that’s happened in this campaign people are still unsure of how they are going to vote.

And if they do, in greater numbers than usual, that may be the thing that finally decides who will win the 11 week election marathon.

Almost nothing about this election campaign has been predictable. Even professional pollsters have been having a hard time tracking just which party is in the lead, and by how much.

And there are 2 things that could make for a surprising finish. First, there’s still a huge number of undecided voters out there
and second, if young voters turn out in large numbers, almost anything could happen tomorrow night.
