Lancaster flypast in Durham

First Published:

Hundreds of spectators gathered at a British airport in Durham yesterday to watch a historic memorial ceremony and flypast of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s Lancaster Bomber.

Before the flypast at Durham Tees Valley Airport, there was a tribute to those who lost their lives during the second world war.

The Mynarski Memorial Lancaster from the museum in Hamilton is one of only two Lancaster Bombers still flying. The other is from the Royal Air Force.

Yesterday’s tributes included praise of Canadian airman Andrew Mynarski who flew the Lancaster from this airport during the war before he was killed in battle.

A Mynarski monument stands there in his honour.
