If you regularly travel along a stretch of Hamilton’s King Street, you’ll notice that a planned conversion of the right lane to a bus-only lane didn’t take place overnight as planned.

Yesterday’s rainy weather forced crews to delay the overnight painting of new markings on the roadway until tonight. Once the painting is completed, the right lane on King between Mary and New streets will become the city’s first transit-only lane.

Only buses will be allowed to use the lane at all hours of the day. The one-year trial will cost the city $300,000.

As a result of the change, parking on King Street will move from the right to the left side of the road. The fine for driving in the well-marked transit lane is $65.
