For more than two years Toronto Police Constable James Forcillo has been waiting for this week. For his chance to tell a judge and jury and the public at large why he shot 18-year old Sammy Yatim so many times on a TTC street car.

James Forcillo took the stand in his own defence today and answered questions, in a loud, clear voice. His lawyer led him through the confrontation with Sammy Yatim that lasted less than a minute. Stopping and starting videos of the incident, and asking Forcillo what he was doing, and what he was thinking. At the first sight of Yatim, Forcillo told the court, he was thinking of two things. Were people still on the street car? And he wanted Yatim to see him and hear him.

Scot Urquhart was in court in Toronto today, as Forcillo continued to defend himself on charges of second degree murder.
