Innovation fund

First Published:

Hamilton has become a hub for start-up companies and that’s why the Federal government says it chose the city to announce nearly $1.3 billion in funding to support businesses across the country.

Mariner Endosurgery has developed technology with a similar concept to the game Operation, that will make it easier for surgeons to execute non invasive surgery. They are just one of many new companies trying to take off out of McMaster Innovation park that could benefit from the strategic innovation fund.

“As you can see we’ve got a whole variety of companies at different stages. We’ve got companies ready to grow, companies just starting off and we’ve got scientists who are just trying to commercialize and the announcement today offered money to really all those different groups.” David Carter, Innovation Factory.

Data storage company Cinnos is looking to build on their business. They make cupboard size data centres for small to medium sized companies so they can store their own data. They say they could definitely benefit from the fund if it’s accepted.

“It would help us to grow our business, hire more people, and do more research and development here in Hamilton.”

Companies in all sectors can apply for a piece of the funding.
