Murdered woman afraid of angry ex

(Video updated) Kyle Newman - the man shot outside Oakville's police station - was on a career fast track, while his family life was crumbling.

Newman was the estranged husband of Katherine Newman - the 43 year old mother of three found stabbed to death in her Tree Top Terrace home.

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit says Kyle Newman was causing damage in the parking lot of the Oakville police station late yesterday morning. When officers went outside to deal with him, there was a confrontation, and he was shot and killed by police.

Kyle Newman was a national product manager at Johnson and Johnson. They sent CHCH News a statement expressing their condolences to the families, adding that out of respect for the privacy of the families, they won't be making further comment.

Neighbours say they didn't notice anything unusual in his behaviour.

Katherine Newman is the daughter of retired Hamilton judge Walter Stayshyn. She has 3 children, aged 12, 10 and 7. She had filed for a divorce in July, and there are reports she had called police on her estranged husband several times.

Like you said, there are 2 sides to every story but murdering her was not the answer. You said that denying a man access to his children is selfish and cruel? Well, murdering their mother and then taking your own life ("suicide by cop" mind you) was just as more selfish and cruel. Either way, their children have lost their parents. What a shame.

As written before, I have known the Newman Family since 1975 and have kept in touch with them over the years. Ask yourself the following question; If his late ex-wife so scared of Kyle, why did she ask him to come to her house the day they both died? She delivered an envelope with Court papers inside that she had apparantly received full custody of their children and that he was also further disallowed from seeing them or have any visitations whatsoever. Kyle was slammed with a berage of court documents by the his late ex and this was after he gave her their home, cars and savings. He was also paying over $4,000.00 in child support monthly. Kyle was a caring, energetic polite quiet fellow and obviously gave her everything to avoid any problems. He was not confrontational whatsoever.

It takes two to tango and there are three sides to every story. As for Court documents, they cannot be relied upon as they are only one side of her story. This is very sad and the tortuous relationship had a tragic ending. One to many buttons were pushed and his children were everything to him. Denying him access to his children was very selfish and cruel. Now the children have no Mother or Father. Very, very sad.
My sincere condolences for both families.

I'm so very disappointed with CH news for posting pictures of Kyle Newman with children despite blurring out their faces. I think it's distasteful - Whether those are his children or not, they don't deserve to be plastered on the news.
