Traditional versus hot yoga

It's been around for thousands of years, but only in the last decade and a half has the art of yoga been embraced by mainstream western culture.
Like coffee shops, there are yoga studios on almost every corner. But as Maria Hayes shows us, not all yoga is the same.

I started practice Bikram yoga at the age of 60. My body is so stiff, that yoga at room temperature is nearly impossible. I have been practicing for four years now, 594 times all together. While I get hurt easily doing other sports even Tai Chi, I have not injured myself all this time doing Bikram yoga. My body is still stiff compare with general yogis but much more flexible than before. My general health improves so much since I practice yoga!
As the meditation effect of yoga, hot yoga is yoga! As long as I follow the teacher's dialogue to practice I am unconsciously meditating. I feel the heat even forces me to meditate to overcome my mind's resistance to the heat, during the beginning of my Bikram yoga practice. Now I embrace the heat! I am more relaxed and less stressed out. I sleep like a baby every night! And so refresh in the morning!
I encourage everyone to try this Bikram yoga as what Bikram yoga has done for me, lowering my blood pressure, cure my back & knee pain and arthritis, improve my immune system.....Do NOT be scared by the 105F heat because so many of my fellow yogi friends cure their health problems, even starting Bikram yoga at age 60+!
