(Updated) Starting Monday you’ll need three people in a vehicle if you plan on using the HOV lanes around the GTA.

The new rules are designed to help ease traffic congestion over the next month during the Pan Am games.

Besides Pan Am Games vehicles, emergency vehicles, and public transit, all vehicles will need three or more people to be allowed to use the HOV lanes between 5 a.m. and 11 p.m. from June 29th to July 27th.

The OPP will have extra officers out making sure drivers are following the new rules and if you’re not, you could face a $110 fine and a loss of three demerit points.

Additional temporary HOV lanes have been added to assist with traffic movement during the Pan Am Games on the Gardiner, QEW, 427, 401, and Lake Shore Blvd.
