Widely regarded at the Robin Hood of South Boston and Boston’s most notorious gangster, James J. Bulger, or “Whitey” as he is known as, has been a topic of interest for many years. “Whitey” allegedly worked hand-in-hand with FBI agents to rat out his rivals in exchange for protection until this alliance fell apart and he was ultimately arrested in 2011. Two-time Emmy award winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger attempts to push past the myths of Bulger and uncover shocking new truths through his access to various resources such as FBI agents, police, lawyers, journalists and federal prosecutors.

The Watchlist’s Brigitte Truong caught up with Joe Berlinger to discuss Whitey: United States of America v. James J. Bulger.
