Heat warnings remain

First Published:

There’s little break from the heat today with temperatures expected to be in the 30s again this afternoon.

Warnings about the extreme heat remain in place around the Golden Horseshoe, with the hot sun taking its toll on everything from buckling infrastructure like a sidewalk in Stoney Creek, to outdoor workers who have little choice but to grin and bear it.

Many people will likely be seeking the relief of pools and air conditioned theatres once again.

The father of one-year-old Greyson Pelvin is taking to social media to warn parents to stay vigilant with their kids in this weather.

Greyson actually suffered second degree burns after stepping onto a metal grate while at a splashpad in Georgetown earlier this week.

The city of Halton Hills says Greyson’s injury is under investigation.

The heat is affecting energy use across the province as well.  The Independent Electricity System Operator says use peaked at 23,100 megawatts yesterday, still 4000 less than our peak in the summer of 2006, but up significantly from last week’s cooler temperatures.

The Peaksaver Plus program was activated yesterday afternoon for the first time this year.

It allows utilities to regulate when home air conditioners run when power is most in demand.
