Hamilton couple demands answers after their dog was viciously attacked and left to die

First Published:

What was supposed to be a fun Canada Day at the drive-in with their beloved dogs Lucy and PK, suddenly turned tragic for Jamie and Melissa Elder.

Only leashed dogs are allowed at the Starlite cinemas, but while getting snacks, an unleashed dog rushed them. With no time to react, Lucy, weighing just over 10lbs, was lodged in the full sized German Sheppard’s jaws.

The couple grabbed both dogs and sped off to a nearby veterinarian. While PK suffered only surface wounds, her sister fared much worse. There was too much internal damage to save her.

The cinema was busy that night and witnesses went online to share what they saw but Hamilton’s animal services told CHCH that despite all that information, they couldn’t find anything.

The couple hopes the owner eventually comes forward to prevent something similar happening to another dog or even a child.

Animal services says that they’re continuing to investigate this tragic attack and ask that witnesses continue to come forward.
