Hamilton couple believed to be fire victims

First Published:

Investigators are turning to DNA to confirm the identity of the second victim in a fierce fire that levelled a couple’s lakeside retirement home southwest of Dunnville.

They’ve already confirmed 62-year-old Cathy Barrett was inside the home, but the remains believed to be 64-year-old Howard Barrett haven’t positively been identified yet.

The couple had been married for over 40 years when their Lakeshore Road home near South Cayuga was destroyed on Friday.

Investigators are also still trying to determine the cause.

Family members say the Barretts had moved from a home on Miles Road in Hamilton a few years ago.
