The Ontario Fire Marshals office will investigate a blaze at an industrial business in Hagersville that caused $5 million in damage.

Just before 4:30 pm Sunday 7 fire stations and more than 50 firefighters responded to a large fire at an industrial business park on Haldimand Road 55 near Townsend yesterday.  Fire officials say the blaze was started by spontaneous combustion started in one of the bags of shredded tires that was outside of a business called Clear Blue Sorbents. They create products for containing oil spills in bodies of water.

The Ministry of the Environment was on scene last night and this morning testing air and water samples. The results from the water samples are not in yet, but according to fire officials there wasn’t any concerns about the thick black smoke
