A local pee wee hockey team is being recognized for all the hard work they do in the community and have a chance to win thousands of dollars towards the charity of their choice.
The Flamborough Sabres are one of ten teams across the country who are vying for the Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup. The award has very little to do with how they play, it’s all about how much work they do in the community.
The 16 players collected nearly 30 bags of clothing to donate to the Men’s Street Ministry, which helps Hamilton’s homeless. The squad also has a close connection to Canada’s military and before each game a player does a presentation about a member of the military. The Sabres wear camouflage jerseys and have partnered with Citadel Canine Society, which provides service dogs for soldiers suffering from PTSD.
“They really did grab hold of it, especially when we started collecting clothing, honouring soldiers. Some researched their own grandparents, the reaction when we made the top ten of the Good Deeds Cup was phenomenal.” Chris Kusmirski, coach.
In order for the Flamborough Sabres to win the Good Deeds Cup, a lot of people have to watch their YouTube video.
