GO Transit confirms West Harbour station opening

First Published:

GO Transit confirms it will begin regular train & bus service from its new West Harbour GO station on James St. North in Hamilton on July 9th.

Considering the late installation of tracks, pouring of concrete and other infrastructure that appeared to be behind schedule, some opposition MPPs, along with Hamilton city councillors, were skeptical that the commuter train station would be ready to move passengers during the Pan Am games in mid-July.

GO says the station will see two weekday trains each morning (7:24 a.m. and 7:57 a.m) and afternoon (4:47 p.m. and 5:23 p.m.), along with special trains for the Pan Am Games starting July 11.

Only the north track and a portion of the public landscaped plaza will be complete, along with washrooms, a ticket booth, and Presto machines in the station building.

Additional construction will continue following the Pan Am/Parapan Am Games until 2016 to complete the south track, a pedestrian bridge from Bay Street, as well as a parking lot and bus loop.
