Garbage worker trashes pail

It seemed like a regular garbage pickup, but it takes an odd twist. A garbage collector empties two green compost bins into the truck, but the second bin also goes in the truck – and then the truck drives off.

When Wendy Gould arrived home, there was no explanation. “It disappeared. I had two garbage cans when I went to work that morning, and when I came home at lunchtime, one was missing.”

She decided to check footage from a security camera located above her front door and found just who had taken the bin.

“I was a little upset because I thought he had no right to throw it in the garbage because it was perfectly fine.”

Once they had seen who took the bin Wendy and her boyfriend Ron were surprised that they hadn’t heard anything from the city. They decided to contact their councillor, Sam Merulla.

Merulla began investigating and was told that the bin was damaged “and as a direct result, it was taken accordingly by the city, and was going to be noted to be replaced at that address.”

Merulla made sure that a new bin was delivered within 2 days. He says that it is protocol for damaged bins to be taken then replaced, and the home owner is supposed to be notified within 24 hours.

A representative from the city also spoke with Wendy’s boyfriend, but the explanation seemed a bit off: “He said that it was falling apart. The leg was broken there was no wheel on it.”

The footage appears to show otherwise.

Overall Gould says they are happy that the bin was replaced. However, she remains skeptical: “If there was something wrong with my green bin, then leave me a note on the one that you left behind to say; destroyed the other one, broke it, whatever….”

It should be noted that Wendy and her boyfriend contacted their councillor before the 24-hour mark so they could have been notified in time.
