A family flagged by red cross as one of the most desperate flood victims got a helping hand.

With the start of school less than a week away, the Stoney Creek “Running Room” donated school supplies to John and Elizabeth Nguyen’s children.

The supplies came from the organization’s annual “School Supply Run.” Organizers heard our story here on CHCH News about the Nguyen family and decided to help out.

“After we had all the supplies, I actually contacted CHCH News and the Red Cross to track down the family to donate the school supplies to the kids, so we filled two backpacks with everything we thought they need and we brought them here for them,” says Jennifer Korstanje.

The family came from Vietnam two years ago with their grandparents, and all slept in the basement.

The family had school supplies for the two children, aged 7 and 9, but it was all damaged in the flooding.

The family says they’re thankful for all the help they’ve received.
