When night falls the skies will no doubt light up with fireworks displays from backyards and parks, but even though they are fun, they can be dangerous.
Jordan Martin says he shot one firework off in his backyard Saturday night while hanging out with friends. He says it misfired and ended up going into a plastic shed. Before heading to a nearby park to shoot fireworks, the group searched the area but saw no damage. But when they returned the whole shed was on fire. A minivan parked in the driveway was also damaged.
Dan Willis with Kaboom fireworks says fireworks should be enjoyed from a distance. He says if proper safety procedures aren’t taken into account a firework display could turn dangerous.
Willis says one person should be in charge of handling them and choose a clear site away from overhead obstacles.
It is recommended to keep a large bucket of water handy in case there is a misfire and make sure to hose down all your fireworks before you throw them out.
The alternative is to leave it to the professionals. At the Falls a fire works display is being planned for 10:00 pm.
