Fire rescue hero

UPDATE: The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office concluded that careless smoking was the likely cause of this fire.  No charges were laid

On Thursday we told you about an act of bravery after a heroic stranger put his own life in danger to rescue a disabled man trapped in a burning Niagara Falls motel. Right afterwards he vanished but today we found the stranger, who lived only doors down from the man he saved.

“I could see James’ arms hanging out the door, and the flames shooting right over top of him.”

And without hesitation 28-year-old Micah Daradick ran towards the flames saving the life of his neighbour, 69-year-old James Whitehead, who is currently in hospital in critical but stable condition.

“I still have burns on my hands from it, I can only imagine what he’s going through.”

Daradick and his girlfriend, Kaitlyne Walford, had moved into the Advantage Inn only 7 days before the fire. The couple say something like this could have been avoided, if the building had proper fire safety equipment.

“Micah was trying to grab the fire extinguisher which didn’t work, only one work.”
“There was no alarms, not even smoke detectors.”

Allegations that authorities are still investigating.
