(Updated) We now know more about the victims of last night’s horrific crash on Hamilton’s Red Hill Valley Parkway.

Friends are identifying the two women as Olivia Smosarski and Jordyn Hastings of Ancaster. The two were very close friends.

Jordyn is on the left with blond hair and Olivia on the right with brown hair. There has been an outpouring of support on social media with friends saying ‘rest in peace’. Olivia was 19 and went to Bishop Tonnos Secondary School; Jordyn was between 19 and 20 years old and went to St Thomas More; they graduated in 2013.

Hamilton Police say the crash happened just before 11:30 last night. The Mazda with the two young women was travelling north on the Red Hill when it veered across the median and into the southbound lanes.

The car was struck by a minivan and the two women were pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the minivan was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Police closed the highway until just before 7 this morning while the reconstruction team investigated.

Hamilton Police have not said if there are any external factors which may have contributed to this crash, and that they are still investigating. They are asking any witnesses to call them at 905-546-4755.
