The Hometown Memorial Paramedic Ride took place in Burlington today.

After a warm up and fitness boot-camp, members of the public and EMS staff went on a ride to honour fallen paramedics. The aim of the ride to is to remember the lives lost in medical service in their home towns.

It was held today in Burlington to honour Ornge flight paramedic Chris Snowball, who died in a helicopter crash on May 31, 2013.

His widow Allie Scott took part. “Today has been very overwhelming and the support that has come out of all of this has been absolutely amazing. The ladies that have put this on today have done a phenomenal job. It was a great honour to have it here.”

Director Ronda Shewan: “eventually the Hometown Paramedic Ride will go across Canada and attend the hometowns of every paramedic that has been killed in the line of duty.”

Tomorrow is the start of the Canadian Paramedic Memorial Ride event, a 4-day trip from Dundas Square in Toronto to Ottawa city hall. The goal is to raise $4 million over the next 5 years and to recognize paramedics the same way other first responders are recognized.
