Ex-Priest in jail for sexual assault seeking parole that could see him walk nearly halfway through his sentence

First Published:

A former Welland Priest and sexual predator is applying to be released from prison early after serving less than half of his sentence. One of Donald Grecco’s victims, who was abused at only 9 years old, says he’ll do everything in his power to stop that from happening.

Anxiety and night terrors plague William O’Sullivan, who is struggling with the news that the priest who sexually abused him as a child has applied for early release from jail.

“Knowing he’s back out there, in freedom after what he’s done and so quickly… it’s been a lot of frustration with the system and anger.”

In October Donald Grecco was sentenced to 18 months in prison for sexually abusing O’Sullivan and two other boys in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Now 6 months into his sentence, he’s applied for parole and because Grecco’s sentence was less than two years, he’d be released without being required to live in a half way house. To try and stop Grecco’s early release, O’Sullivan plans to read a statement at his upcoming hearing. He’s also going forward with other plans.

“I just spoke to my lawyer’s officer and we’re filing with the province and suing the diocese and the province of Ontario.”

The parole hearing is scheduled for April 13th and if Grecco’s successful he could be released before the end of that month.
