Students and staff at Everest Colleges across Ontario are in shock tonight, after finding out that the college is closing its doors, indefinitely.
About 2,400 Everest College students were told today that the private college was closing after an independent superintendent decided that the school was unable to continue financially. A spokesperson for the college says they’ve been looking for a solution with the province for the last two months.
Reza Moridi is the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities “I was very much saddened to find out that Everest College was shut down today – 14 campuses across the Province of Ontario”.
On those campuses, even more sadness among the students and more than 600 staff. Students maintained their attendance and grades to obtain grants to pay for their student loans. Now, they’re not sure whether those loans still stand.
As part of the private career colleges act, a maximum of $3-million has been made available to students to help them move forward “we’ll make sure that students will transition as smoothly as possible to any program which they want to continue to a college nearby. and also if they want a refund that refund can be tapped into that reserve fund”, says Minister Moridi.
