Dreams of a white Christmas for residents of Southern Ontario won’t be coming true this year.
Instead we can expect a wet Christmas.
Senior Environment Canada Climatologist Dave Phillips says if you want the Norman Rockwell picture of Christmas you may have to dream and pray for it.
“We’ve seen a reduction in the depth and also the frequencies and in 50 years from now, my gosh, it may be a part of your bucket list to have a white Christmas.”
There is no universal definition for what counts as a white Christmas.
In Canada weather experts say you need snow on the ground and at least 1 cm falling on the day.
Phillips says this may be the warmest Christmas Eve in the Niagara area in 50 years with temperatures possibly as warm as 10 degrees.
