Election Campaign

The Duffy trial and social media backlash have been following Stephen Harper on the campaign trail so far. And things did not get any better on the first of September when Statistics Canada announced that Canada slipped into a recession. The Conservative leader was in Burlington on Tuesday and had his own spin on the numbers.

Harper wants to paint himself as the only capable steward of Canada’s economic fortunes. The economy edged up a modest 0.5% in June, after five straight months of decline. It was not surprising when the opposition leaders eagerly attacked the conservative turf.

Liberal leader, Justin Trudeau says that “Harper’s approach has not worked to grow the economy, to create the kinds of jobs that Canadians want and need.” NDP leader, Tom Mulcair says that Harper’s plan isn’t working and that “the NDP has a clear plan, to create jobs, to stimulate the economy.”
