Following a deadly house fire on Hamilton Mountain this week, fire fighters were called to another blaze in the city’s east-end last night that sent an elderly man and his male relative to hospital in serious condition.

Hamilton Fire crews were called to 47 Chestnut Ave., in the area of Cannon Street East and Sherman Avenue North just after 7 p.m. last night. When crews arrived three adults, all relatives, were already outside the home; a woman and two men.

According to witnesses, three dogs were also inside the home at the time the fire broke out. They were treated by animal control officers and are expected to recover.

A spokesperson for Hamilton Fire said there is about $25,000 in damage, adding the Ontario Fire Marshal has taken over the investigation due to the injuries.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
