Millions of people around the world came together today to support a healthier, cleaner and happier planet.

Today is Earth Day, first celebrated in the US in 1970.

In Hamilton, dozens took part in the beach clean-up along Van Wagners Beach road.

This year’s theme is: end plastic pollution, raising awareness about the dangers of plastic in our environment and the need to reduce its consumption.

Volunteers saying they found plenty of plastic items along the beach strip.

One hundred and ninety two countries were expected to take part in earth day activities today.
