Dog found abandoned during last week’s deep freeze

In an extreme case of neglect, a rottweiler was found abandoned and suffering from an injury that had been left untreated for weeks if not months.

Around 1:30 Friday afternoon on Erie Ave in Fisherville, where all of Southern Ontario was experiencing an extreme cold warning, a woman and a man were seen dropping the dog off in a white four door car. She was found with what was described as facial trauma.

“Once we picked her up we noticed the eye injury, so an officer took her to a vet who did some X-rays and discovered its an old injury inside her mouth that the people didn’t treat.” John Greer, SPCA.

And because it wasn’t treated, the infection spread to her eye. She now faces the possibility of losing that eye if her body doesn’t respond to antibiotics.

“We would definitely lay criminal charges. When you have an animal it is your duty to care for that animal that includes vet treatment when necessary.”

Charges that could lead to up to 5 years in jail and a $60 000 fine.

Once her treatment is finished she’ll be up for adoption and have a chance at a much healthier and happier year ahead.
