With the longest federal campaign underway local candidates are doing what they can to attract votes on October 19th.

After the holiday weekend, candidates are starting to hit the campaign trail.

It’s the first time in over 140 years that a federal election campaign has been this long, 6 weeks longer than the usual 5 weeks making it a lengthy 11 weeks ahead. dean allison is

There aren’t too many campaign signs out on the city streets just yet, but with the federal election campaigns called to a start just this past sunday, local candidates are getting ready to launch their campaign soon.
“What really makes the biggest impact with people is face to face and that takes a lot of time.” says Bob Bratina.

And liberal candidate Bob Bratina has an office, and has started to hit the streets too. But with the election called so early, the former mayor says there’s a financial challenge for all candidates looking to take down the conservatives.

“The question will be, can we raise enough money to match the government party.”

According to recent polls, the NDP’s have the lead in public support, but candidate Scott Duvall is still a work in progress, officially opening his campaign doors this Saturday.

“We’re just gathering all of the information and getting prepared with our signage and our literature.”

And candidates are doing what they can to take advantage of the extra campaign time.

With 11 weeks to go, you should expect a few knocks at your door.
