(Updated) In just a few months hopeful owners will get a glimpse of the Royal Connaught for the first time in almost a decade as it transforms into a condominum complex.

The developers announced the first phase of the condos will go on sale June 4th.

122 condos will be sold in that phase. Prices are expected to start in the mid $200,000 range.

The restored grand lobby will serve as the sales centre.

More than 3,000 people have already registered for sales updates. Rudi Spallaci of project developer Spallaci Group says the condo’s location is a main selling feature.

“The area where the Royal Connaught is located is right in the core, so center of everything, you have two GO stations. The existing one on Hunter Street, the new GO station on James North that started construction, so this is centrally located to GO stations.”

“And then everything is in walking distance. You have coffee shops, Jackson Square, brand new food store. Then you have brand new stores opening up downtown. If you’re looking to buy a new place this is the place to be looking.”

Developers say they hope to start construction two or three months after sales begin.

The Royal Connaught hotel has had an impressive list of guests come through its doors. It has hosted royalty, celebrities, prime ministers and even gangster Al Capone.
