We found out Monday that Zach won’t be back at quarterback for awhile. The Tiger-Cats have placed Zach Collaros on the six-game injured list. The Ticats have never used the c-word — concussion — to describe the injury.
Collaros suffered the injury in week 2 after getting a helmet to the chin from Eskimos defensive lineman Odell Willis. He also hurt his back on the play. Collaros, the Ticats prised off-season acquisition, a free agent signing after two years with the Argos, completed 23 of his 41 pass attempts, for 212 yards, 1 td and two picks before getting injured. Collaros can come off the 6 game list at any point. He does not have to stay the duration. Collaros did not speak to the media Monday — injured players are not made available. And Head Coach Kent Austin had little to say: “Yeah, he’s not set for it yet. We’ll give him some time. At this point I think it makes sense to do that. The best decision for managing our roster at this point. We can pull him when we want to. Dan started this week and he played really well. Let’s see it we can build on his success.”
If Collaros were to stay on the injured list for the entire six game period, he would not return until the September 20th game when the Ticats host the Eskimos. After what we saw from Dan Lefevour on Saturday night, it looks like the Ticats quarterbacking is in good hands.
