Cold Weather Warning

First Published:

Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold weather warning for Hamilton, Halton and Niagara regions.

The warning is issued when the temperature or wind chills create a heightened risk to health such as frost bite or hypothermia.

According to Environment Canada we’ll ring in the new year with bone-chilling temperatures near minus 30 with the wind chill.

These frigid conditions have prompted local organizations like the Salvation Army to initiate their community response and they say nobody will be turned away from their shelters.

Other shelters in the city are opening their doors to those needing to get in from the cold.

You should call the Salvation Army if you see someone on the streets.
