Cold weather alert issued for Saturday

Hamilton’s Medical Officer of Health has issued a cold weather alert for the city, effective early Saturday morning.

An alert like this is issued when weather conditions are or anticipated to fall below -15 degrees Celsius or -20 degrees with the windchill.

Friday began with warm, springlike conditions but the cold will be making a return.

Rain is changing to snow creating icy conditions as temperatures plummet.

Surfaces like roads and sidewalks could become icy and slippery.

Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to -10 degree Celsius, with windchill values dropping below -20 degrees.

The cold weather alert will remain in effect until it is cancelled.
