Cold expands garbage collection cancellation

First Published:

(Updated) More communities have cancelled garbage and recycling pickup today because of the cold weather. Halton and Niagara regions have joined the city of Hamilton in suspending collection due to unsafe working conditions.

Residents are asked to store their garbage until next Tuesday. Pickup limits will be waived next week.

Garbage was not collected in some areas of Hamilton yesterday, and limits will also be waived for those areas next week. Christmas tree collection will resume Thursday and into next week.

Extreme wind chills of between minus 30 and minus 40 are expected throughout the day and tonight.
