A Niagara-on-the-Lake auto shop owner has been sentenced to four years in prison for his role in a multi-million dollar chop ring. George Tsigirlash was at the centre of an operation that pieced together high end vehicles and sold them to unsuspecting buyers. Police zeroed in on the chop shop with the help of a GPS from a stolen transport truck. Police tracked the stolen truck here to Auto Enterprises on Lincoln Avenue. A salvage yard owned by George Tsigirlash.
When police raided Auto Enterprises and two other properties linked to Tsigirlash on Niagara Stone Road they uncovered a large luxury vehicle chop shop. BMW, Lexus, Mercedes cleanly cut into pieces. Several chopped and
stripped cars and car parts.
George Tsigirlash was convicted on forty counts of possession of stolen property, two counts of fraud. Sentenced by Justice James Ramsay to four years in prison. Tsigirlash testified he was pulling back from the day to day operation of the business but Justice Ramsay didn’t buy it. Ramsay said the employees and contractors were not on frolics of their own. Everything at Auto Enterprises whether it was repairs or sales, the boss knew about it.
