While the death toll in Nepal is set to reach five thousand after Saturday’s massive quake, more people will die if they can’t get food, medicine and of course- clean water. Phil Perkins visited a Canadian water filter company that’s working with the federal government to get clean water to the disaster area, to prevent further tragedy.

For millions of people in Nepal, surviving Saturday’s earthquake was just the beginning of their struggle. Contaminated water leaves millions of survivors at risk of contracting potentially deadly diseases.

Setting aside $5-million to help, the federal government has given Globalmedic, a disaster relief group, $600 thousand to send supplies including water purification kits.

“What we want to do is ensure that they have clean water and access to clean water so that they can wash and drink and clean” said Newmarket – Aurora MP Lois Brown.

Globalmedic plans on having 2000 kits sent to areas surrounding Nepal by Friday. Once on the ground, they have to get creative to transport the kits.
