Canada Day long weekend activities

First Published:

While the weekend will be a scorcher, a lot of people still plan to spend our nation’s 151st birthday outdoors.

People of all ages are kicking off their Canada Day long weekend early down at Hamilton’s Waterfront, taking advantage of the sunshine and blue skies. Some, planning to get out of the city, and head to the cottage, and as is tradition, most plans involve fireworks.

Hamilton Fire is reminding people of the rules and safety.

Fire officials say the safest way to watch fireworks this Canada Day is to watch the city’s free display down here at Bayfront Park and Pier 4.

The fireworks display kicks off at 10 pm, but there will be entertainment starting at noon that will run all day.

If you’re feeling hungry this long weekend, you can head on over to Waterdown’s ‘O Canada’ Ribfest, in its ninth year at Memorial Park.

Preparations were underway today for the event, which kicks off tonight and runs until Monday. You can also catch fireworks at Ribfest Sunday night.
