Call leads to impaired driving arrest

Halton Regional Police are crediting a citizen for her quick action in contacting them after witnessing a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner.

Friday at 8:45pm, a Hyundai was seen by the citizen driving erratically near the intersection of North Service Road and Guelph Line in Burlington.

Police say the Hyundai went out of control shortly after the call and crashed into a ditch at the side of North Service Road.

Police attended the scene and made an arrest. The allegations include driving with over three times the legal limit of alcohol.

No other vehicles were involved and no one was injured. The Hyundai sustained minor damage.

40-year old Karie Ann Benham of Oakville is charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg, and failing to comply with a prior bail release condition.

The accused was held for a video remand hearing to be held Saturday.
