A local water activist is raising concern over storm water that flows into Lake Ontario. After a storm over the weekend Brett Rogers shot video of garbage pouring into the lake at Burlington’s Spencer Smith Park. He posted the video to social media and tens of thousands have now seen it, including mayor Rick Goldring, who tweeted that he’ll meet with Rogers and local musician Sarah Harmer over the issue.

In Burlington, Halton region administers the waste water system, but this is not sewage so the region doesn’t have any comment about this. The city of Burlington manages storm water, that’s what this pipe is. Storm water is runoff that the city channels into the lake, so that our homes don’t flood.

Rick Goldring says he and his water experts will meet with Rogers and his friend, musician Sarah Harmer, to discuss their concerns. That meeting so far is scheduled for August 9th and the mayor doesn’t want to talk to us about this before then.
