After dropping three straight, the Hamilton Bulldogs find themselves on a bit of a roll, winning four of their last five games. The team’s winning ways have been the product of a full team effort, with a couple of individual achievements.
The Hamilton Bulldogs are climbing up the North Division standings after a successful five game stretch which was topped off with a 5-1 beat down of the Toronto Marlies over the weekend.
Bulldogs defenceman Greg Pateryn: “You know, games before, guys tried to do it themselves. Everyone is using each other out there, playing more as a team and not as an individual.”
There are a couple of individuals that have been turning heads. Rookie Charles Hudon leads the team and all AHL rookies in scoring with 18 points — numbers that even he wasn’t expecting: “I’m a little bit surprised, as my performance goes. For the team, it’s pretty good. I just want to make sure I do the right thing for the team and not just for myself.”
And while goalie Mike Condon is sporting a .938 save percentage after five straight starts, he’s not letting it get to his head: “It’s a pretty short tenure in this business. Trying to get more comfortable every game, trying not to get too complacent and it starts with practice.
And with almost a week off, the Dogs had lots of time for practice.
The five day break is great for preparation and getting healthy. But for some of the American players on the team — and there’s ten of them — it’s going to be a good opportunity for them to indulge in some Thanksgiving dinner: “We’re driving down there and going to have a nice team dinner, that’s pretty much the extent of our Thanksgiving.”
“It’s kind of tough being away, it’s a big deal where I’m from in Boston, but I think we have a nice turkey dinner waiting for us in Cleveland tomorrow night. So I guess that’s the closest thing to home that we’ll be getting.”
