Two people out fishing on the Niagara River are lucky to be alive this afternoon, after they were thrown from their boat just upstream from the Horseshoe Falls.

The boat, with its motor running, was spinning out of control. The two people who fell out, were picked up by a nearby vessel.

It happened closer to the U.S. side near the Grand Island bridge, but the Niagara Falls, Ontario fire department responded with their rescue boat.

They were trying to get close to the spinning boat, which eventually beached itself.

The rescued pair was taken to hospital.
