A Hamilton woman is riding the coattails of the Blue Jays’ success this season. In seven months, she’s sold over 500 t-shirts with different Jays-related slogans.

“I think people have been waiting a long time; 22 years for a winner in Toronto, so that has helped me as a business person as well.”

Seven months ago, Julia launched The JayWalk, a t-shirt printing business geared toward her favorite baseball team: the Toronto Blue Jays.

“I’ve always been a Blue Jays fan, and I think anyone in the GTA can say they’ve been a Toronto sports fan. I wanted to do something for fans that has never been done before and just run with it.”

Julia’s designs have even caught the attention of some of the Blue Jays’ biggest stars, Marcus Stroman and Roberto Osuna. “Osuna actually has one of my shirts. I met him before a game before a bullpen and gave him his shirt, and he said ‘take a pic of me wearing it’, so I did.”

Stroman bought a whole bunch, and tweeted out a picture of him wearing one of Julia’s shirts. “They’ve embraced it, and that goes to show you how good a person they are.”

The Blue Jays logo is nowhere to be found on her shirts, but she uses the same colours and fonts that you’d find on the Jays’ jerseys; and they are made in Canada. “Everything from the shirt to the vinyl to the actual packaging. I’m very proud of that.”

Julia is hoping to expand her business to include other local sports teams. Of course, it would help if the Toronto Maple Leafs were better.
