Black Friday deals

Black Friday is a chance to get a good deal on Christmas gifts, and to spoil yourself of course, and it has taken Canada by storm.

CF Lime Ridge was very busy today. It opened early, at 7 am, for people who wanted to get those deals first thing this morning.

“This is the best time to do it, Black Friday. There are so many sales, so many good deals, so this is perfect time to shop”

Among the most popular items were fuzzy socks from Old Navy for $1.

“They are really soft and they are fuzzy, and the toes and tops of the socks have different designs”

“We’ve got reindeer, we got cheetah print”

And while CF Lime Ridge and other big box stores around town were flooded with deals, many local shops have a different opinion about the mad dash to save some money.

“Well I think they are doing a disservice to their business. They are training their customer base to buy on sale”

Angela Demontigny is the owner of Demontigny Boutique on James Street North. She says customers who shop along the strip are looking for unique pieces as opposed to deals.

“People are making things that are very unique and are not carrying a huge amount of inventory like big box stores”

On Ottawa Street there were a few shops participating in Black Friday and the best deal at Orange Tree Boutique is their winter coats.

“We have one regular price of $225, it is at $169 with no tax today”

One customer came in to treat herself to a bracelet to wear for her Christmas parties, and that also was exempt from tax.

The majority of the customers on James Street North and Ottawa Street didn’t go looking for deals. And many local shop owners said their customers don’t expect to save big bucks, but that was certainly not the case at CF Lime Ridge where everyone was running around looking for deals.
