Hamilton police have released the name of a woman charged with the attempted murder of tenant following a rental dispute.

Officers were called to an apartment building at 421 Whitney Ave. around 6:40 p.m. Saturday.

A 61-year-old man was taken to hospital with critical injuries. Police say the man was renting a room from a 60-year-old woman in the building.

Police allege the woman was upset the man had not paid his rent and about the possibility that the man brought bed bugs into the unit.

Investigators did not say what happened during the dispute but said a weapon was recovered.

Police believe the suspect had been drinking alcohol before the incident.

Sixty-year-old Linda Jaksic has been charged with attempted murder. She is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Police say the victim remains in hospital in stable condition.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Michelle Moore by calling 905-546-3843.
